Brigadier General John Deda Bulus, the 54th Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA), resumed command of the premier finance and administration training institution on 10 November 2025. A distinguished officer, holder of PhD and academician, Brig Gen JD Bulus was born in Murai, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. He is a member of the 30th Short Service Combatant Course and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant on 13 March 1993.

His exemplary career was marked by extensive professional military education. His course attendance includes the Young Officers' Course (Finance and Infantry), Cashiers' Course, Junior and Senior Course, Commander Division Finance and Account Course, and the prestigious Defence Studies and Strategic Course at the National Defence University in Beijing, China.

Brig Gen Bulus has held a balanced mix of command, staff and instructional appointments. His command experience includes Brigade and Division Finance Offices. He has held the Grade 3, 2 and 1 Staff appointments at various finance formations. He was equally the Military Assistant to the Director of Army Finance and Accounts, Assistant Chief of Staff as well as Chief of Staff at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Finance Corps. He has served as an Instructor and Guest Lecturer at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration on multiple occasions, contributing to manpower development of future generations of military finance professionals.

The seasoned senior officer was recognized for his competence and dedication. He has enjoyed steady career progression with several honours and awards, including the Grand Service Star (GSS), the General Operations Medal (GOM), and the United Nations Medal (UNM), amongst others.

The Commandant is also an accomplished professional outside the military, holding fellowships of several professional bodies. He is a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN) and the Chartered Institute of Finance and Control of Nigeria (CIFCN).

Brig Gen JD Bulus is happily married to Mrs Mary John Bulus, and the union is blessed with children. His personal interests include reading, teaching, and listening to gospel music.
